| Information on 3-D Renders, Digital Sketches, and Contour Caricatures Skip down to 3-D Renders, Digital Sketches, or Contour Caricature Information Computer Generated 3-D Renders Some of the pictures on the left were created using a 3D modeling and animation program called Maya. It was developed by a company now called Alias and has quickly taken over the 3d Market. It is currently the industry standard for animation and special effects. It is also used by many gaming companies to build levels and characters. I was first introduced to this program at a Junior College in Saratoga, CA. Most of these pictures are examples of how I used a specific shaders or technique, and look much better when animated. Let me tell you it is an Art in its own right and takes endless hours to master. I have real respect for the professionals on this one. Digital Drawings As you should know, Drawing is a vital part of developing as an artist. Recently I have been picking up some Fine Charcoal and a Gum Eraser and drawing but I realize that my expertise doesn't stop there. Times are changing and more and more of todays art is done off the light tables and table tops and instead been moved to the computer. Digital art is very different from traditional art. the colors mix differently, the lines are put down systematicly. There is no longer an infinitly smaller scale, instead we are confined by pixels and inches and we must rely on a computer to interpret the information we give it. One advantage that I see to creating things digital is that there is an undo button. If you don't like something you have made you can always just press the undo button. The resourse is also endless. You can make any project any size. Colors don't matter because they can be manipulated any time using a variety of tehniques. I compair digital art most of the time to oil painting. Like its traditional ancester, digital coloring and painting takes time. It is important to keep your drawing not only up to par but up to speed too. Practice makes you faster. Contour Caricatures These are caricatures that were created using Photoshop. (adobe) Like many others I am constantly finding new inspiring methods to express myself. I've found that being around people is very important to my growth and development. Because of this constant interaction I am continually being introduced to new artists and styles. I was inspired by one particular artist that goes by "renonevada" on Deviant Art Prints. (DAP) These drawing are my take on her style. I try to take on a new style every couple months that I think will challenge me. This is an important lesson that I believe most artists over look. In the business world it is very seldom that any individual artist will be able to stick with only one style their entire career. That is the main reason why I continue practicing other styles. These caricatures are not overly exaggerated, movement and liveliness is reached instead by mood and tone. I try to achieve these with angles, positions, and expression. Because most of these people exist in real life, I have tried to capture a little of their personalities and behaviors with each project. Whenever I am working on a project it is important to me that it can be understood from a wide range of audiences rather then a select few. Realistic looking anatomy and muscle structures do not always impress an audience. I have pushed the bounds of these pieces by adding a new and interesting angle or perspective to them. Most of these drawings are created using a building method that I have been developing on my quest to recreate renonevada's style. I like this style of art and would like for more people to start drawing this way. |
